Independent Study 1

Logs:

Evidence:
Trick: Lay down

Trick: Dance

Trick:Roll Over

Trick: Sit
Literal

(a)  “I, Katie S., affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
(b) I taught my dog Mina how to do 4 tricks I tried to teach her 5 ,but the last one she didn't entirely get.

Interpretive

Each trick I taught my dog took quite a bit of time and I used techniques that I read about in my research. I had to teach each trick using treats and a clicker to train her. She caught on very fast with the clicker, but I think she preferred the treats more.

Applied
This Independent Task taught me how to use training techniques and how to see if they actually work with my dog. It also answers my EQ answer of training and what techniques actually work. This will help me during my 2 hr presentation by telling which technique I think is best considering I will have had some experience.

  1. Grade: P-

Pros: A well behaved pup makes everyone happy! I am glad you took the time to train your dog; it is clear that you out a lot of love and time into your Independent Study 1. I hope you use this data for your Science Fair experiment.

Cons: Your data needs to be better compiled! Although you did a phenomenal job logging your hours and what you attempted, I am unclear as to the process Mina went through in training with you, and I am not sure of the final results of your training experiment. If you ask Mina to roll over today, will she do it without? Have you transitioned from using a treat to simply using hand gestures? Does she have “good” or “bad” training days? If so, what contributes to them? I need to see your thoughts on paper, Kaitlin.
